Urge Congress to Repair the Voting Rights Act

Action Alert - June 24, 2016

Saturday, June 25, marked the third anniversary since the U.S. Supreme Court gutted a key provision of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) in Shelby County v. Holder.

Restore the VRAWithout Congressional action to repair the VRA, 2016 will mark the first presidential election in 50 years without its full protections. Throughout the 2016 primaries we saw voters face a variety of obstacles from reduced polling places to long lines to removal of registered voters from the rolls, and these challenges are just a canary in the coal mine for what's to come in November without the VRA's protections.

Last week, hundreds of League members visited their members of Congress as part of the LWVUS Convention Lobby Day urging Congress to take action to repair the VRA.

Now we need you to add your voice to the call for reform! Ohioans know from first-hand experience what a difference fair voting laws can make. As the ultimate battleground state, we want to see our entire Ohio delegation stand united in support of repairing the VRA.
